What's Happening in the Tiger Classroom!
You may have noticed on this email that we are looking for volunteers for our Cultural Fair on December 6th, if you are interested, please follow the link and fill out the survey on the email! Last year it was such a wonderful experience, I am looking forward to this year's event!
As you know we are celebrating Halloween on Wednesday the 31st, your child may wear their costume to school and then after the party, they can change into regular clothes. We will be going outside for recess, weather permitting and we do not want anyone to fall on their costume or ruin their costume before they go trick or treating that evening. Also, please do not send any food or candy with your child to school, we are unable to pass it out to our students.
We go outside for recess everyday weather permitting! Please make sure your child has appropriate outerwear (coat, hat, gloves/mittens), also as we try to get ready for recess, it is helpful if your child can zip his/her coat, so if he/she needs practice, please help them because self sufficient with getting on coats, zipping them up and putting on gloves/mittens. All help is greatly appreciated!
If you have not signed up for our Family Educator Conference in November, please use the link below. I am very excited to share your child's progress with you!

Literacy
We have been reading informational books about farming 100 years ago and current day! The children enjoyed comparing how the cows were milked, crops were harvested and sheep were sheared. Now we are reading The Old Things. It compares old things with newer things such as: typewriter and computer, camera with film and digital camera etc. The children are enjoying learning about how these old things were used. I shared with them that I used to write on a typewriter because there were no laptops when I was growing up. They all found that very funny! We also began writing opinion stories. This week, we wrote about which animal (polar bear or penguin) they like and why. This is there favorite type of writing!
Math
We are continuing our daily counting and our number line continues to grow! We made a patchwork patterned quilt with butterflies. I included a picture of it in our Photo Gallery! We are counting from numbers other than 1. We also compared all the cubes we had collected in our Calendar Collection and compared which color had more (orange or blue) and how many more. We talked about shapes: hexagon, rhombus, and trapezoid. We made picture puzzles using these shapes to fill them in using a variety of pattern block shapes.
Next week, we are beginning Unit 3, I am including the parent letter below.

Science
As our unit on pushes and pulls continues we are looking at ramps and how things move up, down and turn such as a rollercoaster. During purposeful playtime we have had dominos to put in a row and knock one down.
